Nursery School vs. Childcare

Bolton Hill Nursery is high-quality, play-based educational program within a full-service childcare center.

  • The nursery school portion takes place during the first half of the day (from 9am-1pm) and all children, nursery and childcare, participate.  Children who are solely nursery can be dropped off at the school between 8:45am-9:00am when the teaching portion of the day begins.

  • Childcare students typically arrive between 7:30am-9:00am and  are picked up between 3:30pm-5:30pm.  They enjoy the morning educational program, lunch, nap time/rest time, enrichment activities and gross motor play in the afternoons.

  • Families may opt for a 5 day nursery program (M - F, 9am - 1pm) or a 7:30am - 5:30pm 4-day (M - Th) or 5-day (M - F) full-time childcare program.

"School Year" vs. "Summer Camp"

Bolton Hill Nursery is open year round, yet we have two distinct parts of the year.  During the "school year" (September through May) the staff of BHN track specific skills and monitor them.  They assess the children in September, January and May and hold conferences with parents to discuss their findings assuring that all parties are on the same page and that the same behaviors are being seen at school as well as home.  Weekly schedules are posted with specific areas of focus. Classroom newsletters are sent out on a biweekly basis and/or classroom blogs are updated.  Weekly reports are distributed to the parents noting skills that have been accomplished as well as areas that may need a little extra attention.  There is a constant line of communication through email, phone conversations and face to face contact.

While this same communication is very much apparent during "summer camp" (June through August), skills are not closely tracked.  The children continue to learn through play.  Outdoor play, swim lessons and more are the focuses of the day instead of mastering specific skills.

Many of the families that attend Bolton Hill Nursery during the school year also participate in the summer program although a separate application is necessary.
